Zen School of Motorcycling

About the coach

Hi, I’m Keith Dunn.

With over 45 years of motorcycling experience, I have owned and ridden all sorts of different machines. My early years in the saddle were mainly self-taught, learning from good experience, but there were also a few tough lessons from hard-knocks.

Then, suddenly, in one of those “Light-bulb switching on” moments…

About 25 years ago, I experienced my first professional motorcycle training course. It opened my eyes to the benefits of professional training and inspired me to become an advanced riding instructor/coach. Since then I’ve tried to constantly develop my skills by attending further training courses.  I always use the best of my knowledge and current practice to teach my clients.

My aim is to help others enjoy motorcycling safely and skilfully.

I’ve been lucky to learn from some of the best motorcycle instructors in the business such as the Hopp Rider Training (HRT) Team, who were formed by senior members of the British team of Nurburgring motorcycle instructors. After several years of participating in HRT’s excellent “Better Riding Day” courses at Cadwell Park, I am proud to be part of HRT’s current team.

I retired from a 30 year career of firefighting with Essex County Fire & Rescue Service in November 2022, but I still work with them as a FireBike Rider. The FireBike Team provide free advanced rider training courses in Roadcraft and Machine Control Skills with the aim of reducing the number of casualties from Road Traffic Collisions.

I am happy to have arranged the collaboration between HRT Rider Training and the FireBike Team to provide their Advanced Machine Skills courses. The FireBike Team are gaining recognition as the leading Motorcycle Road Safety Representatives on Essex County Council’s Road Safety Partnership.

As a holder of RoSPA’s highly regarded National Diploma in Advanced Motorcycling Instruction, I am qualified to teach any post-test motorcyclists, from a newly qualified rider who wants to gain more confidence and skill, to an advanced rider who wishes to become an advanced instructor.

I have also studied and gained a City & Guilds Level 3 Award – Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector. This has enabled me to teach adults professionally using contemporary teaching methods.

I have a renewed passion for teaching with the new skill of Coaching.  I am studying and working hard to become the best coach that I can be.
